Treaty and Traditional
Territory Acknowledgement
The German-Canadian Congress meets on the ancestral lands of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and on the homeland of the Metis Nation. We respect the Treaties that were made on these territories, we acknowledge the harms and mistakes of the past, and we dedicate ourselves to move forward in partnership with Indigenous communities in a spirit of reconciliation and collaboration.
Autumn is always a vibrant season for the German community, filled with longstanding traditions and cherished celebrations. This year is no exception. On October 3, Germany marked the 35th anniversary of reunification, a pivotal moment in the nation's history that marks the coming together of East and West Germany into a unified country. This season also brings the spirited festivities of Oktoberfest, celebrated not only in Munich, — home of the world's largest Oktoberfest, — but by German communities across the globe.
